| context |
An unidentified World History, the beginning leaf of which is missing. The first chapter (Maqala, f. 2a) treats the histories of the Prophets. The volume ends with an epilogue (f. 362b) containing a description of the city of Herat and mention of its monuments and notables. The last person mentioned (f. 383a) is Ustad Shaykhi Nami.
The text could possibly be identified with the Khulasat al-Akhbar, the abridgment made in 905/1499-1500 by Ghiyath al-Din b. Humam al-Din Khwandamir of the Rawdat al-Safa by his grandfather Mirkhwand. The description of the content by Hermann Ethé, MS London, India Office, No. 76) exactly fits that of the present manuscript.
On ff. 383b-384b are family notes on the birth of children dated 1255/1839 (in both eras), and later. Loosely inserted is a note in Russian, one leaf written on either side with pencil.
