context Targuma-yi Gazira-yi Mathnawi or simply Gazira-yi Mathnawi (, ‘The island of the Mathnawi’, title on ff. 1a,1b). Turkish translation by Yusuf Sine Gak (?, so on f. 1a) of and commentary on the beginning of the Mathnawi-yi Ma`nawi by Galal al-Din Rumi (Mawlana, d. 672/1273). The Persian verses are overlined with red ink to distinguish them from the Turkish text. The author of this Turkish version of forty couplets from the Mathnawi is, according to E.J.W. Gibb, History of Ottoman poetry, vol. 3, pp. 297 ff., Ibrahim Chelebi, with takhallus Jevri/Gawri (d. 1065/1654-5) The MS is not dated, but on f. 1a is an owner’s note by al-Hagg Sayyid Ibrahim Sar Khalifa-yi Sabiq Agha dated 1152 (1739-1740). The MS is probably not very much older.
